According to CNN, Tawakkol Karman decided to donate the $500,000 she received as Nobel Prize cash. The first Arab woman to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize donated her prize money to a fund for the people wounded and the families of those killed in Yemen’s Arab Spring-inspired uprising – the Aid Fund for Families of Martyrs and Wounded in the (2011) Peaceful Revolution, which was set up by President of Yemen, Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi. In a statement, she said, “It is my duty to the youths who sacrificed for change and to build a Yemen founded on freedom, justice, equality and good governance.”
