Nobel Prize Cash and Philanthropy
After Carlos Saavedra Lamas passed away, several American collectors purchased his Nobel Prize medal, according to the Baltimore Sun. In March 2014, Stack’s Bowers held an auction for Carlos Saavedra Lamas’ medal when handling auctioning the estate of the medal’s most recent owner. According to the auctioneer, it was only the second time that the Nobel Peace Prize medal was auctioned. An Asian collector won the bid for the prize at $1.1 million dollars. A conflicting report by NBC News states that his heirs auctioned off the medal.
